20 years have passed since the first fetal surgery in Spain
In June 1999 Eduard Gratacós performed the first surgery in Spain on a fetus inside the mother’s uterus.
The patients were twins who suffered from twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, a characteristic complication of twins who share a placenta that can be fatal. Today, 20 years later, fetal medicine is a specialty that saves lives on a daily basis. The print media picked up the story.
